About TEL Philippines...Past, Present, Future:

THEN...
1977-1986
TEL Philippines is part of the larger organization TEL International, with ministries in China, India, Indonesia, Singapore, and Vietnam in addition to the Philippines. TEL Philippines began in 1977 when the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association requested Rev. Roy Robertson to come to Manila to set up counselor training and follow-up for the 1977 Manila Crusade.

After completing his repsonsibilities following the crusade, Rev. Robertson stayed on to form evangelistic teams with young Filipino evangelists-in-training to take the Gospel to the smaller communities of the nation.  Inviting these young men to live with him, they began to travel, preach, and follow-up throughout the nation.

From 1978 to 1985, several training programs were conducted, similar to the ones already held in Japan, Singapore, and Indonesia by the Robertsons.  In 1986, TEL was officially incorporated in the Philippines in Lipa City, Batangas.  The Robertsons moved on to Hong Kong to supervise the new work there.

Throughout the next decade, TEL Philippines was lead by Rev. Kumar Abraham, a native of Sri Lanka and former TEL graduate.  Rev. Kumar was a dynamic communicator and excellent organizer, leading several of his own training programs from 1987-1994.  In 1995, Rev. Abraham founded a new mission, Good News Evangelistic Association.  He continues to colabor with TEL staff and alumni in evangelistic projects and training seminars for evangelists which he conducts under GNEA.
